Sometimes unexpected things happen in the studio.
I am currently exploring ideas for a new bracelet design and have been playing around with prototypes in copper.
All sheet metal comes covered in a plastic coating when you buy it (to protect it from scratches) which is usually easy to peel off. The backing on this piece was particularly stubborn though and wouldn’t come off, which means I had to remove it with the torch.
Usually when you burn it off the plastic just shrivels up and disappears. So it was a surprise to see what looks like the outline of fish bone or gills emerge. It was as if, somehow, the metal knew I am more than a little obsessed with the sea and the creatures that live in it…
