I love it when you come across something unexpectedly beautiful.
Take a sheet of gelatine. Not a lot to say about that, is there?
It’s a yellowish thin rectangle with a funny criss-cross pattern, probably made of stuff we don’t want to know about. But beautiful it is not.
Unless… you immerse it in water as per the instructions for the New Year’s Eve dessert recipe I was attempting to make earlier.
Suddenly this insignificant-looking sheet of thickening agent morphed into a serene, sun-dappled swimming pool on a sunny day.
Or at least that's the image this picture conjured up inside my head. And that’s the beauty of what we see. The beholder decides.
That’s my parting thought for 2016.

P.S. The dessert turned out rubbish. But I got a cool picture out of it. And there’s always next year… in the kitchen and elsewhere!
